A Boeing 777-300ER operated by American Airlines, which departed from Los Angeles for Sydney at 10:30 PM on Wednesday, made an emergency U-turn and returned to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) just half an hour after takeoff due to a safety concern. The plane reportedly decided to turn back over the Pacific Ocean at 11:02 PM and landed safely in Los Angeles at 1:50 AM. The airline confirmed that no injuries or dangerous situations occurred during the incident.
According to a statement from American Airlines, a warning light indicating an issue with the cargo hold door illuminated during the flight. The crew, following protocol, decided to return the plane to ensure safety. However, after the aircraft landed, technical inspections revealed that there was no issue with the door, and the warning light had malfunctioned.
The rescheduled flight to Sydney is expected to depart the following day at 1:00 PM, using the same aircraft.
