Aleppo Airport Reopens After a Three-Month Hiatus!

Aleppo International Airport, one of Syria’s key air transport hubs, has resumed operations today following the completion of a three-month maintenance and repair period. The reopening ceremony was attended by Aleppo Governor Azzam Garib, the Director of Airlines, civil aviation officials, and prominent figures of the city.

Had Been Out of Service for a Long Time

The airport had been out of operation for years after sustaining severe damage from elements of the former regime and the PKK/YPG terrorist organisation. However, thanks to extensive maintenance and renovation efforts led by the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, the airport has now reopened for flights.

First Flight Between Damascus and Aleppo

The first flight at the newly reopened Aleppo International Airport arrived from Damascus International Airport. The aircraft was welcomed with a ceremony before returning to Damascus, officially marking the resumption of air traffic between the two cities.

Message from the Governor of Aleppo: “We Invite Everyone to Our City”

Speaking at the opening, Aleppo Governor Azzam Garib emphasised the airport’s strategic significance for the city and stated:

“Aleppo International Airport serves as a bridge to civilisation, technology, and development. This reopening marks the beginning of a new era for Aleppo. We invite all who love Aleppo to visit our city through the newly opened flight routes.”

Cargo Transport and New Routes on the Way

The President of the Civil Aviation Authority, Shehd Salibi, underlined that reopening the airport is a crucial step for Syria’s air transport and economic development. Salibi confirmed that regular flights between Aleppo and Damascus have commenced and provided further details:

“Cargo transport will be launched soon. Additionally, several airlines are currently planning flights to Aleppo.”
