India’s rising airline, Akasa Air, has achieved remarkable growth since it began flight operations in August 2022. The company currently operates a fleet of 26 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed orders for a total of 200 planes.
New Deliveries on the Way
Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube announced that the airline is in constant discussions with Boeing regarding aircraft deliveries and expects several new planes to join the fleet within the current fiscal year ending in March 2025. Dube emphasized that the company has faced no issues in its supply chain and maintains a strong relationship with Boeing.
“We are working with Boeing to align expectations on how and when the aircraft will be delivered. Akasa Air, which has added four new planes to its fleet this year, is performing beyond its financial plans and showing strong results,” he said.
Position in India’s Aviation Market
Targeting growth in the Indian domestic market, Akasa Air achieved a 4.5% market share as of October. The airline is determined to maintain a competitive stance in a market dominated by IndiGo and the Air India Group, which together hold over 91% market share.
CEO Dube remarked, “Rather than focusing on things we cannot control, we are concentrating on how we can better serve our customers. We will continue training our staff to show kindness and empathy.”
Focus on Empathy and Service Excellence
Dube highlighted that Akasa Air is perceived by consumers as a kind and empathetic airline. “We will continue to treat our passengers with kindness and ensure that our employees feel valued and respected,” he stated.
Notable Boeing Orders
In January 2023, Akasa Air announced an order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft. This follows an initial order for 72 Boeing 737 MAX planes in 2021 and an additional four planes ordered in June 2023, accelerating the airline’s growth plans.
Financial Performance and Growth
Commenting on the airline’s financial position, Dube stated, “We are ahead of our plans, which is very encouraging for us. As a well-capitalized airline, we continue to progress confidently on our path forward.”
