AJet’s Harm to Alanya is Unacceptable

AJet's decision to halt flights from Ankara to Alanya Gazipaşa could cause serious damage to Alanya's tourism and economic goals. ALTSO President Eray Erdem reacted to the decision, stating that this will have negative effects on local dynamics and the national economy.

Eray Erdem, President of the Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ALTSO), strongly criticized AJet Airlines’ decision to stop flights from Ankara to Alanya Gazipaşa. Erdem stated that this decision will have a huge negative impact on the region’s tourism and economy. Calling AJet’s move, as a domestic and national brand, “meaningless,” Erdem highlighted that this decision contradicts Alanya’s goal of spreading tourism across 12 months.

“AJet’s Harm to Alanya is Unacceptable”

Erdem, who opposed the flight cancellation, pointed out that Alanya Gazipaşa Airport ranks 9th in Turkey in terms of international flight capacity, stressing that this decision would negatively affect not only Alanya but also Turkey’s overall tourism policy. He said that AJet’s wrong decision had overlooked local dynamics and the region’s tourism potential, adding that the number of flights should be increased instead.

“The Goal of Spreading Tourism Across 12 Months is Harmed”

Eray Erdem argued that AJet’s flight cancellations had dealt a significant blow to Alanya’s brand value in tourism. He stated, “This decision, made without considering Alanya’s achievements in tourism and local dynamics, will directly hinder tourist flow,” and emphasized that winter tourism is of great importance to Alanya. Erdem noted that Alanya had made significant progress in becoming a region that attracts a large number of tourists even in winter.

“Flights to Alanya Must Continue”

Recalling that Turkish Airlines has a 90% occupancy rate in summer and 74% in winter, Erdem pointed out that AJet also performed similarly during the summer. He stressed that AJet’s decision to halt flights would put the local community and the tourism sector in a difficult position and that the decision should be reconsidered. “Cancelling these flights, an important transportation link for Alanya and its surrounding areas, will directly harm the tourism sector and the regional economy,” he said.

“A Mistake Must Be Reversed”

Erdem concluded by urging AJet to review its decision and reverse this mistake. He emphasized that AJet, as a domestic brand, should fulfill its social responsibility and contribute to the regional economy.

Alanya’s Brand Value is Being Damaged

Erdem stated that Alanya’s years of promotion and brand value are negatively affected by such decisions. He stressed that this decision is incompatible with the views of local dynamics and tourism sector representatives. Erdem expressed that they expect AJet to reverse this decision for the region to take stronger steps in tourism.
