Expanding its flight network with new routes, AJet marked the opening of its first new destination of the year, aligning with its growth strategy in North Africa. The inaugural flight from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Algiers took place on Monday, January 6. With this new connection, AJet became the first airline to operate flights from Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Algiers.
Turkey’s new airline, AJet, introduced its second route in North Africa, following Egypt. Flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport began on Monday, January 6.
Before AJet’s first flight to Algiers, a ceremony was held at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, attended by AJet executives and senior airport management. Following the three-and-a-half-hour maiden flight, the aircraft was welcomed with a water salute, a traditional aviation custom, in Algiers. A ceremony at the airport was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Algeria, Muhammet Mücahit Küçükyılmaz, Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport CEO Mokhtar Said Mediouni, as well as AJet and airport officials.
“Turkey-Algeria Relations Will Strengthen”
Speaking at the ceremony, Turkey’s Ambassador to Algeria, Muhammet Mücahit Küçükyılmaz, highlighted that AJet’s new route marks a new phase in the strong and friendly relations between Turkey and Algeria. He emphasized that AJet’s flights between Algiers and Sabiha Gökçen Airport provide direct and convenient access from Istanbul’s Asian side. Küçükyılmaz noted that the new route would not only facilitate travel but also open new horizons for trade, tourism, and cultural collaboration between the two countries.
Istanbul-Algiers Flights to Operate Five Days a Week
The flights, aimed at boosting tourism and trade potential between the two nations, will operate five days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Departures from Sabiha Gokcen Airport are scheduled at 1:50 PM local time, while return flights from Algiers are set for 5:05 PM local time on the same days.
