Airports Shut Down, Fires Break Out! Ukraine Strikes Russia

Russian officials have reported that overnight drone attacks by Ukraine sparked fires in the Astrakhan region and led to the suspension of flights at several airports.

Fuel and Energy Facilities Targeted in Astrakhan

Igor Babushkin, governor of the southern Astrakhan region, stated on Telegram: “The Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted fuel and energy facilities in the region using unmanned aerial vehicles.” He also confirmed that a fire broke out after a drone was shot down, though no casualties were reported.

Flights Suspended at Multiple Airports

Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, announced the temporary suspension of flights at airports in Astrakhan, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Saratov, and Ulyanovsk due to security concerns. The attack has caused disruptions to air traffic as authorities assess the situation and implement precautionary measures.

Zelensky Calls for Urgent Western Support

Following these developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his call for increased Western support. In a Telegram post, he stated: “Russia attacks Ukraine daily with drones, missiles, and air bombs. The world must pressure Russia to stop this brutal aggression.”

1,400 Airstrikes in the Past Week

Zelensky revealed that over the past week, Russia had launched 50 missiles, 660 drones, and more than 760 guided bombs at Ukraine. According to Ukrainian officials, a Russian strike caused an explosion in the southern city of Kherson, injuring five people, including two children.

Emphasising Ukraine’s urgent need for additional support, Zelensky reiterated: “We need stronger protection, including air defence systems, long-range weapons, and increased sanctions pressure.” He called on the international community to act swiftly.
