A First for Turkey: Domestic Flying Car Successfully Completes Its First Manned Flight

Turkey has entered a new era in aviation. The domestic tech startup AirCar has successfully carried out the country’s first manned test flight with its two-seater flying car model. The test was personally piloted by the company’s CEO.

Turkey, already gaining recognition in aviation and mobility technologies, has now achieved a significant milestone in the field of flying cars. Founded in 2019, the domestic venture AirCar conducted the country’s first manned flight using its two-seater electric air vehicle.

During the test flight at Informatics Valley, the company’s founder and CEO, Eray Altunbozar, sat in the pilot’s seat. The flight lasted around 10 minutes, during which the vehicle ascended to a height of 8 metres and safely landed on a helipad. The test was completed in accordance with all safety protocols despite wind speeds exceeding 35 km/h.

“We Are the 5th Company in the World to Conduct a Manned Flying Car Flight”

Speaking after the flight, Altunbozar stated that AirCar is one of only five companies worldwide to conduct a manned test flight with a two-seater flying car. Emphasising that flying cars are no longer science fiction, the CEO highlighted their goal of establishing a production facility and moving into mass production.

Maslak to Kadıköy in 5 Minutes

AirCar’s two-seater model stands out with its autonomous air taxi concept, specifically designed for urban transportation.

  • The vehicle has a carrying capacity of 200 kg,

  • Offers a range of 50 to 80 kilometres on a single charge,

  • Features a special safety system with eight motors,

  • Operates five times more quietly than helicopters.

The company aims to reduce travel time on busy routes such as Maslak–Kadıköy to just 5 minutes with the planned “AirCar Port” stations to be established across Istanbul.

Mass Production and Investment Underway

Mass production of the single-seater model is expected to begin by the end of the year. Continuing its work on a pilot production facility, AirCar aims to increase its production capacity with support from TÜBİTAK and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. The company operates within the framework of the Ministry of Industry and Technology’s 2030 Strategic Roadmap.

An Eco-Friendly and Quiet Transport Solution

Powered entirely by electric motors, the flying car brings a fresh perspective to urban transportation while drawing attention with its environmentally friendly design. Engineered to minimise noise pollution, the vehicle also aims to offer alternative solutions in the field of private transportation.
