A large-scale rescue operation has been launched near Abisko National Park in northern Sweden after a helicopter was caught in an avalanche. The incident occurred at around 15:50 when an Airbus H130 T2 helicopter, operated by Kallax Flyg, was caught in an avalanche while attempting to land.
Seven People Rescued Safely
It was reported that all seven individuals involved in the accident were outside the helicopter. According to initial reports, the pilot managed to escape quickly when the avalanche struck. During the rescue efforts, two people initially thought to be missing were found safe by 17:00. Additionally, one person sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Tromsø, Norway.
High Avalanche Risk: Mountain Rescue Teams Deployed
Authorities have launched a mountain rescue operation due to the high avalanche risk in the area. In a statement following the incident, officials emphasised that weather conditions and avalanche risks remain extremely high. The extent of damage to the helicopter and the condition of the injured individuals have not yet been fully determined.

Due to the ongoing avalanche risk around Abisko National Park, residents, mountaineers, and tourists have been urged to exercise caution. Local security forces are implementing safety measures in high-risk areas while continuing the rescue efforts.
