The world’s largest aerospace manufacturer, Airbus, has announced its target of delivering 820 aircraft in 2025 following its strong performance in 2024. The company successfully delivered a total of 766 aircraft in 2024, surpassing the previous year’s figure of 735.
2024 Results and Order Performance
Airbus has released its 2024 financial results and presented an optimistic outlook for 2025. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury stated, “In 2024, we achieved strong order intake across all our business segments. Our book-to-bill ratio above 1 confirms the healthy demand for our products and services.”
In 2024, Airbus received 878 gross commercial aircraft orders. After cancellations, the net order count stood at 826. The company’s total backlog reached 8,658 aircraft, providing a solid foundation for future deliveries.
Commercial Aircraft Deliveries and Revenue Growth
In 2024, Airbus delivered the following aircraft:
- 75 A220
- 602 A320 Family
- 32 A330
- 57 A350
These deliveries contributed to a 6% increase in commercial aircraft revenue, reaching €50.6 billion. Adjusted EBIT from commercial aircraft operations rose from €4.8 billion in 2023 to €5.1 billion in 2024.
Production Increase and Supply Chain Challenges
- A320 Family: Airbus aims to ramp up production to 75 aircraft per month by 2027.
- A350: Production rate is expected to reach 12 aircraft per month by 2028, with the A350 freighter’s entry into service now scheduled for H2 2027.
- A220: The target of producing 14 aircraft per month by 2026 remains unchanged.
- A330: Production is stabilised at a 4% rate.
However, Airbus continues to face supply chain challenges, particularly affecting the A350 and A220 programmes, due to issues related to Spirit AeroSystems.
2025 Targets and Financial Projections
For 2025, Airbus forecasts:
- 820 commercial aircraft deliveries
- Around €7 billion in adjusted EBIT
- Around €4.5 billion in free cash flow before customer financing
These projections assume no major disruptions in the global economy or supply chain.
Spirit AeroSystems Integration
Airbus is preparing to integrate specific work packages from Spirit AeroSystems, with the following expectations:
- Completion by 1 July 2025
- Limited impact on Airbus’s operating profit (Adjusted EBIT)
- A temporary decline of hundreds of millions of euros in free cash flow
However, Airbus is expected to offset this decline through compensation from Spirit AeroSystems.
