Airbus Doubles Production. 1,000 New Job Opportunities

Airbus has doubled its U.S. production capacity by opening a second A320 Final Assembly Line in Mobile, Alabama. The new line will create 1,000 jobs and accelerate Airbus’s global A320neo production targets.

In October 2025, Airbus marked a major milestone in its industrial presence in the United States by officially opening a second A320 Final Assembly Line (FAL) at its Mobile, Alabama facility. This strategic move aims to meet the global demand for the A320neo family and increase production capacity in the North American market.

With this expansion, Airbus will nearly double its A320 production capacity in the U.S., creating around one thousand new jobs. The company plans to reach its target of producing 75 single-aisle aircraft per month by 2027.

Airbus officials stated that the commissioning of the new line not only expands production capacity but also directly contributes to the company’s goals of localisation, sustainable supply chains, and logistical efficiency. The new facility in Mobile, complementing the existing A320 and A220 assembly lines, turns the site into a transatlantic manufacturing hub.

Airbus described this initiative as a “commitment to American manufacturing excellence,” emphasising that the United States has now become a “strategic hub” within the company’s global production network.

Mobile: The Aviation Base of the U.S. – Economic and Strategic Advantage

Located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, the Airbus campus is ideally positioned for large-scale logistics operations with direct access to port, rail, and air transport. Local and state support have been key factors enabling this expansion.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey highlighted that the project strengthens the state’s position in aerospace manufacturing, stating:

“This investment is proof that Alabama has become a soaring power in aerospace manufacturing,” she said.

The Mobile production line delivered its first U.S.-built A320 in 2016 and reached a significant milestone in 2018 with the delivery of the 100th aircraft to Frontier Airlines. With the addition of the A220 line in 2019, Airbus achieved synergies in training, supply, and workforce efficiency. The delivery of the 100th A220 from the Mobile line in mid-2025 became a tangible testament to this success.

Strategic Expansion: Supply Chain Resilience and Competitiveness

Airbus’s investment in the United States not only boosts production capacity but also aims to strengthen resilience against global supply chain risks. The Mobile facility provides Airbus with the flexibility to respond more swiftly to the needs of airlines across the Americas, while easing the production load at its European sites in Toulouse and Hamburg.
