The Airbus Foundation and the Solar Impulse Foundation have initiated a three-year partnership to accelerate sustainability through aviation technology and nature-based solutions. This initiative aims to support innovative projects addressing environmental challenges.
Supporting Innovative Projects to Address Environmental Challenges
Airbus will back projects tackling environmental issues using satellite data and atmospheric assessment tools. Selected projects will receive €10,000 in seed funding along with expert support. These initiatives are designed to develop solutions that enhance environmental sustainability.
Joint Innovation Focus from Solar Impulse Foundation and Airbus
Bertrand Piccard, Founder and Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, highlighted the partnership’s potential, stating, “By combining aviation technology with nature-based solutions, we can drive impactful innovation.”
Julie Kitcher, Airbus Chief Sustainability Officer and Airbus Foundation Chair, emphasized Airbus’ commitment: “Aviation technologies allow us to uncover information about our planet that is inaccessible from the ground. By leveraging Airbus’ expertise in satellites and helicopters, we are committed to empowering innovators and researchers to develop solutions addressing urgent environmental and social challenges.”
Objective: Climate Resilience and Ecosystem Restoration
The partnership aims to enhance climate resilience, restore ecosystems, and drive sustainable policy changes. Starting April 1, proposals will be accepted for projects that leverage aviation capabilities to tackle global environmental and social issues.
