French aviation giant Airbus has made history with its A320 model. According to data from British analysis company Cirium, the Airbus A320 has overtaken the Boeing 737 to become the world’s best-selling passenger aircraft.
Airbus A320 Takes Over Boeing 737’s Throne
The long-standing leadership race in the aviation industry has come to an end. With the A320 series, Airbus has broken the record long held by the Boeing 737 as the “world’s best-selling passenger aircraft.”
According to Cirium’s analysis, with the delivery of an A320neo model to Saudi Arabian airline Flynas, Airbus has now delivered a total of 12,260 aircraft from the A320 family. This figure has officially surpassed Boeing 737’s total deliveries.
The Balance of Power in Aviation Is Shifting
Experts note that with Boeing’s current production plans, it will be difficult for the company to catch up with the sales pace of the A320 family. However, this development may push the American manufacturer to pursue a more aggressive strategy for new models.
Both manufacturers continue to form the backbone of global air transport. In particular, economic growth and the expanding middle class in the Asian market have boosted demand for both the A320 and 737 families.
Low-Cost Airlines Are Shaping Demand
Interestingly, although these aircraft were originally developed for flights between major transport hubs, they have now become the most preferred models for low-cost airlines.
To date, the two manufacturers have delivered more than 25,000 A320 and 737 passenger aircraft in total. This demonstrates that these two models, which form the backbone of commercial aviation, continue to play a critical role in the global flight network.
