Air New Zealand Plane Hits Jet Bridge, Passengers Affected

At Brisbane Airport, an Air New Zealand aircraft operating flight NZ146 collided with a passenger jet bridge while being pushed back from the gate. Following the incident, the flight was cancelled and passengers were rebooked on alternative flights.

The incident occurred yesterday around midday when the Auckland-bound NZ146 flight, operated by Air New Zealand, made contact with the jet bridge during the pushback manoeuvre. The flight, which was scheduled to depart at 12:15 PM for a journey of approximately two and a half hours, was cancelled due to the technical inspections not being completed in time.

Email Sent to Passengers: “Your Safety Is Our Priority”

In a message sent to affected passengers, Air New Zealand stated:

“Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the required inspections and resulting repairs will not be completed in time for your flight today. We understand this will be disappointing, but your safety and wellbeing remain our highest priority.”

Due to the potential risk of damage to the aircraft’s fuselage and connection points, technical teams launched a detailed inspection. The airline confirmed that efforts are ongoing to return the aircraft to an airworthy condition.

Apology Issued by the Airline

An Air New Zealand spokesperson made the following statement to the press:

“We apologise to our passengers. Safety is always our top priority in situations like this. We are providing alternative flights and support to those affected.”

Flight Safety and Jet Bridge Incidents: Rare but Critical

Experts note that collisions with jet bridges are rare but must be taken seriously. Even minor deformations on the aircraft’s exterior can pose safety risks, making thorough inspections mandatory before the aircraft is cleared for flight.

Passengers Rebooked on Alternative Flights

Air New Zealand officials said that most affected passengers would be rebooked to Auckland on alternative flights either the same day or the following day, with efforts made to minimise disruption and inconvenience.
