Tata Group Provides Financial and Moral Support to Air India Crash Victims

Following the tragic crash of an Air India passenger aircraft in India, Tata Group has announced that it will provide compensation of approximately $115,000 to the families of the eight individuals who lost their lives.

Tata Group Offers Support and Condolences

Tata Group, the parent company of Air India, issued a statement on the X platform (formerly Twitter) addressing the crash. Citing Air India Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the message read:
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. We stand in solidarity with all the families who lost their loved ones.”

In addition to compensation, Tata Group stated that it would cover all medical expenses for injured passengers. The company also pledged support for the reconstruction of the BJ Medical College building, which sustained significant damage in the crash.

Prime Minister Modi Visits the Area

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site in Ahmedabad and met personally with the injured at the hospital.

Eight Non-Passengers Among the Dead

According to the BBC, a senior health official from Ahmedabad reported that eight of the deceased were not on the aircraft. Four of them were students, while the other four were relatives of students staying in the same building.

Air India Flight 171 Crashed Shortly After Takeoff

Air India Flight 171 crashed shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. There were 242 people on board.

Air India provided the nationalities of the passengers as follows:

  • 169 Indian citizens

  • 53 British citizens

  • 7 Portuguese citizens

  • 1 Canadian citizen

Investigation Ongoing, Black Box Recovered

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that no official announcement regarding the cause of the crash has been made yet but confirmed that an investigation is underway. According to the Hindustan Times, one of the aircraft’s two black boxes has been recovered and sent to a centre for data analysis.
