Air Arabia Becomes the First Middle Eastern Airline to Accept Stablecoin Payments

Air Arabia has become the first airline in the Middle East to launch a stablecoin-supported payment system, pioneering this innovation in the region. The Sharjah-based low-cost carrier now offers the option to pay for flight bookings using AE Coin. This development was made possible through a strategic partnership with Al Maryah Community Bank (Mbank).

AE Coin Introduced for Flight Payments

AE Coin, the UAE’s first AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham)-backed stablecoin, can now be used as a valid payment method for bookings made through Air Arabia’s website. Integrated via the AEC Wallet App, the system offers users a more secure, low-cost, and faster payment alternative.

Merging Aviation with a Vision of Digitalisation

Adel Al Ali, Group CEO of Air Arabia, commented on the initiative:

“We embrace digitalisation across all our operations. This partnership enhances the travel experience by offering flexibility and smart solutions to our customers through technology.”

Strategic Partnership with Mbank

The collaboration with Al Maryah Community Bank (Mbank), the UAE’s first fully integrated digital bank, marks a milestone not just in the aviation sector but also in advancing the UAE’s digital financial infrastructure.

Mohammed Wassim Khayata, CEO of Mbank, stated:

“This integration brings innovation to the booking process while supporting the nation’s vision for a digital and inclusive financial ecosystem.”
