In the incident, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, Özcan was seen making statements such as, “I’m a billion-dollar man; I could buy Turkey.”

Footage of the altercation quickly spread on social media and became a trending topic. In the videos, Özcan was seen engaging in a heated verbal argument with another passenger in the business class section of the flight. It was later revealed that THY had blacklisted Özcan as a result of the incident.
Apology and Statement from Petlas
As the incident continued to spark reactions, Petlas Tire Industry and Trade Inc. issued a statement expressing regret over the matter. The statement read:
“We are deeply saddened by the incident involving our board member, Abdülkadir Özcan, on the THY flight. This incident is contrary to the values of both our family and our company and cannot be justified under any circumstances. We sincerely apologize to the Turkish public and assure you that the necessary decisions regarding this matter will be implemented promptly within the company. We once again apologize for occupying the public’s attention with such an incident.”
Decision to Remove from Position
Following the incident, Petlas announced on December 14, 2024, that Özcan had been removed from his position on the company’s board of directors. The statement read:
“As of December 14, 2024, it has been decided to terminate Abdülkadir Özcan’s membership on the board of Petlas Tire Industry and Trade Inc. This is shared with the public for your information.”
