A Proud Moment from TUSAŞ: HÜRJET Reaches Mach 1.2

Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ), one of the leading institutions in Turkey’s defence industry, has achieved another milestone with HÜRJET, the domestically produced supersonic jet trainer. TUSAŞ announced that HÜRJET has reached a speed of Mach 1.2, marking a significant step forward in supersonic jet training.

In a statement shared on TUSAŞ’s official social media accounts, it was noted: “A new record from HÜRJET! Having reached Mach 1.2, HÜRJET has passed yet another milestone in the field of supersonic jet training. We continue to push our success in the skies further with each passing day.” This development once again highlights the performance of HÜRJET, which was developed using national and domestic capabilities.

What Are HÜRJET’s Features?

HÜRJET was developed by TUSAŞ to meet the Turkish Air Force’s need for a jet trainer aircraft and to replace its current jet training fleet. It is Turkey’s first domestically designed and produced jet trainer aircraft, with the design and production process beginning in 2017.

Standing out with its high manoeuvrability, advanced avionics systems, and modern cockpit design, HÜRJET made its maiden flight successfully on 18 March 2023, earning its place in Turkey’s aviation history. In addition to its role as a trainer, HÜRJET is also notable for its versatility, making it suitable for light attack missions as well.

Which Countries Are Showing Interest in HÜRJET?

HÜRJET holds significant potential for Turkey’s defence exports. While official statements remain limited, it is known that many countries have expressed interest in the jet trainer. Most recently, it was reported that the Spanish Air Force and the Spanish Space Agency (ESA) are considering procuring 24 Turkish-made HÜRJET aircraft to replace their F-5 jets.

Moreover, previous reports in the international defence media have highlighted that countries such as Azerbaijan, Qatar, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Malaysia have shown keen interest in HÜRJET.
