A Giant Leap from SunExpress: A Fleet of 132 Boeing Aircraft on the Way

SunExpress doubles its fleet with next-generation aircraft, offering a sustainable and comfortable flight experience, and plans a major hangar investment in Antalya.

SunExpress’s Sustainable Growth Move: Doubled Its Fleet, Major Hangar Investment Coming to Antalya

SunExpress is doubling its fleet compared to pre-pandemic levels, boosting its operational strength while enhancing passenger comfort with environmentally friendly next-generation aircraft.

A Modern and Efficient Fleet Target for the 2030s

By 2025, SunExpress will have nearly doubled its fleet and is taking firm steps towards the future with new Boeing aircraft orders. Of the total 132 Boeing aircraft covered by the growth plan, 87 are firm orders.

With these new orders, SunExpress aims to have the majority of its fleet consist of 737-8 and 737-10 models by the early 2030s.

SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki emphasised that the fleet renewal process represents not only numerical growth but also a comprehensive transformation:

“Flying with a younger and more modern fleet reduces our environmental impact while providing significant gains in fuel consumption, efficiency, and costs. This transformation demonstrates our commitment to offering our passengers a high-standard flight experience as we move confidently into the future.”

Antalya to Become the Region’s New Aviation Maintenance Hub

Another key step in SunExpress’s growth strategy is the planned hangar investment at Antalya Airport. Considered a major milestone in the company’s history, this project is expected to be completed within three years, turning Antalya into a regional maintenance centre.

Kownatzki highlighted the strategic importance of the investment:

“Thanks to our hangar with a 12-aircraft capacity, we will be able to carry out our fleet’s technical maintenance and repair operations in-house. This facility will not only serve the SunExpress fleet but also other airlines operating in the region. Antalya will become a strategic hub for aviation maintenance services in the region.”

Contribution to Skilled Workforce and Regional Development

Kownatzki stated that the hangar project is more than just an infrastructure investment; it will also contribute to the development of a skilled workforce in the region. In this context, SunExpress will continue to add value to Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem by increasing employment in aircraft maintenance and engineering.
