A passenger aircraft operated by Libya’s Berniq Airways was forced to cancel its flight after colliding with a flock of birds during take-off from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli en route to Cairo. The incident occurred in the morning hours on Friday, and authorities halted the flight as a precautionary measure.
155 Passengers Safely Evacuated
The aircraft, captained by Marwan Al-Sheikhi with First Officer Tamim Mneina, was carrying 155 passengers. According to aviation experts and local civil aviation monitoring sources, significant damage was detected on the aircraft following the collision; however, no injuries were reported.
Authorities confirmed that all passengers were safely disembarked and that emergency procedures were fully implemented.
Replacement Aircraft to Be Assigned
In a statement, Berniq Airways said that a replacement aircraft would be assigned to enable passengers to complete their journeys. The company emphasised that efforts were ongoing to resolve the disruption as quickly as possible.
It was reported that accommodation was provided for affected passengers and alternative arrangements were offered to ensure they reached their destinations.

Passengers expressed their appreciation for the professional approach of the flight crew and ground staff in managing the emergency. It was noted that the response was swift and conducted in accordance with internationally recognised aviation operational protocols.
Bird Strike Warning
The incident was recorded as one of the rare bird strike cases affecting commercial flights in Libya. Authorities stated that the aircraft would undergo detailed technical inspections before its next scheduled flight and that no compromises would be made on safety.
Berniq Airways also announced that it continues to implement international aviation safety standards in order to prevent similar incidents.
