Prime Air’s B767 Veers Off Runway: Nose Landing Gear Collapses!

Prime Air Boeing 767-300 (B763) cargo aircraft veered off the runway during landing in Vancouver, Canada, following a flap malfunction. The incident escalated when the nose landing gear collapsed.

PAN PAN Declared Due to Flap Issue

The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft, registered as C-GAZI and operating for Cargojet, was performing flight W8-2387 from Hamilton to Vancouver. Shortly before landing, the pilots reported a flap system issue and declared a PAN PAN. They informed air traffic control that the landing would be executed at a higher-than-usual speed.

Emergency Teams Stood Ready

Before the landing, emergency teams at Vancouver Airport took their positions. The aircraft landed on runway 08L at 01:28 local time at a speed of approximately 175 knots, significantly higher than normal. However, the plane was unable to stop within the runway and came to a complete halt about 572 meters past the runway threshold, with the nose landing gear collapsed.

MAYDAY Declared After Landing

After the aircraft came to a stop, the pilots declared a MAYDAY to emphasize the severity of the situation. Both runways 08R and 08L were temporarily closed to air traffic. Following the incident, runway 08R was reopened for operations.

No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the incident has been launched. Airport operations experienced brief disruptions due to the event.
