32 Survive, 25 Hospitalized in Azerbaijan Plane Crash

A passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, resulting in a major tragedy. According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preliminary reports indicate that 32 out of the 67 passengers on board survived.

“SOS” Signal Sent; Emergency Landing Attempt Fails

On December 25, the Embraer 190 aircraft operating flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny was rerouted to Aktau due to severe weather conditions. The plane sent out an “SOS” signal over the Caspian Sea and crashed near the city during an attempted emergency landing. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Aktau has been actively involved at the crash site since the accident occurred. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported deploying 150 firefighters and 45 units of equipment to extinguish the fire and rescue survivors.

Passengers of Various Nationalities

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport, the passengers included 37 Azerbaijanis, 6 Kazakhs, 3 Kyrgyz, and 16 Russians. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health stated that 6 of the survivors are in critical condition and are receiving hospital treatment.

Concerns for Children and the Injured Persist

Dinara Zakiyeva, Kazakhstan’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, confirmed that two children were injured in the crash. A total of 25 individuals have been hospitalized, and authorities are working to determine the exact conditions of the survivors.

“A Major Tragedy Unfolded”

This crash near Aktau is being regarded as a significant tragedy in aviation history. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan authorities are conducting a joint investigation to compile passenger lists and uncover the details of the accident.
