Türkiye is aiming for the top in aviation. In April 2025, Istanbul Airport became the busiest airport in Europe with a daily average of 1,481 flights. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, citing EUROCONTROL data, announced that Istanbul had risen to leadership in European aviation.

Following Istanbul on the list were Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with a daily average of 1,387 flights and London Heathrow Airport with 1,350 flights.

Strong Performance in Cargo Flights Too

In addition to its success in passenger traffic, Istanbul Airport also made a name for itself in cargo transport. With a daily average of 38.1 cargo departures, it ranked as the 4th busiest cargo airport in Europe.

Minister Uraloğlu commented, “This performance is a significant achievement on the path to making Türkiye a regional hub in air logistics.”

Türkiye Ranks Second in Domestic Flights

According to EUROCONTROL’s April 2025 data, Türkiye ranked second in Europe for domestic flights, with a daily average of 869. France led the list with 975 flights, while Italy came in third with 854.

Sabiha Gökçen and Antalya Also Make the List

As a hub for low-cost airlines, Türkiye also stood out in regional air traffic.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport ranked 5th in Europe with a daily average of 219.8 departures.

Antalya Airport followed in 10th place with 179.3 departures per day.

Türkiye Ranks 4th in New Flights

Türkiye’s aviation growth is not limited to existing routes. In April 2025, the country added an average of 196 new flights per day, placing it 4th in Europe in this category.

Minister Uraloğlu noted, “These figures clearly demonstrate Türkiye’s steady growth in air transport.”
