Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced that the number of weekly flights operated by Turkish Airlines (THY) to Slovenia will be increased during the summer season. Currently operated at 14 weekly frequencies, this figure is set to rise to 18 in the summer of 2025.
During his visit to Slovenia, Minister Uraloğlu noted that he met with Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, Minister of Infrastructure Alenka Bratušek, and the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković. He emphasised that the discussions particularly focused on opportunities for cooperation in the fields of transport and infrastructure.
Turkish Mark on the Karavanke Tunnel
As part of the visit, Uraloğlu also inspected the Karavanke Tunnel, which connects Slovenia and Austria. He stated that he took part in a test drive through the tunnel alongside Minister Bratušek. “The tunnel project is being successfully carried out by a Turkish contracting company. Despite challenging geological conditions, excavation, reinforcement and superstructure works have been completed. This project holds strategic importance for Europe in terms of logistics, trade, and tourism,” Uraloğlu said.
Highlighting that Turkish engineering is now recognised with confidence at the heart of Europe, Uraloğlu added, “With our infrastructure capabilities, we continue to contribute not only to Turkey but also to neighbouring countries.”
Trade Volume Surpasses 3 Billion Dollars
Uraloğlu noted that economic relations between the two countries have gained significant momentum, announcing that the trade volume between Turkey and Slovenia exceeded 3 billion dollars as of 2024. He stated that Turkish investments in Slovenia reflect the strong ties between the two nations.
He also pointed out that the absence of quotas in road transport offers a significant logistical advantage, saying, “Aviation is another area where our cooperation with Slovenia has grown stronger. The increase in Turkish Airlines’ flights to 18 is a tangible sign of this relationship.”
