Greater Bay Airlines announced on Wednesday that delays in the delivery of new aircraft, alongside maintenance requirements for existing planes, have led to the cancellation of 128 flights in February and March. The Hong Kong-based airline clarified that the cancellations would not affect services during the Lunar New Year holiday period, ensuring that flights during this busy season would operate as scheduled.
Internal Review Findings and Impact of Cancellations
Following internal reviews of flight scheduling processes, the airline reported the identification of negligence. The cancellations are said to impact 64 round-trip services, involving approximately 5,500 passengers. Affected travellers have been offered alternative flight arrangements or refunds as solutions to mitigate disruptions.
Additionally, the airline revealed that it has applied to aviation authorities for the suspension of its underperforming Seoul-Hong Kong route.
Greater Bay Airlines stated its commitment to improving operational processes to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
