Istanbul continues to thrive as a hub for aviation. Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport recorded record-breaking passenger growth in the first ten months of 2023.
5% Growth at Istanbul Airport
According to the State Airports Authority (DHMİ), Istanbul Airport served a total of 67,530,932 passengers from January to October 2023.
- Domestic flights: 14,702,188 passengers
- International flights: 52,828,744 passengers
Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 3,161,511 passengers. While domestic passenger numbers dropped by 4%, international passengers grew by 8%, resulting in an overall passenger growth rate of 5%.
12% Growth at Sabiha Gökçen Airport
Sabiha Gökçen Airport hosted 34,452,333 passengers in the first ten months of 2023, up from 30,746,722 in the same period last year.
- Domestic flights: 16,365,948 passengers (+1.76 million increase)
- International flights: 18,086,385 passengers (+1.94 million increase)
With this growth, the airport saw a 12% increase in total passengers, adding 3,705,611 passengers compared to the previous year.
7% Increase Across Istanbul Airports
From January to October 2023, Istanbul’s two airports collectively welcomed 101,983,265 passengers, a significant rise from 95,116,143 passengers in the same period last year. This marks a 7% year-on-year increase, with an additional 6,867,122 passengers.
